City/Dans: Eiko & Koma

Cambodian Stories Revisited

Danspace Project , New York NY. May 24 - 27, 2007

Eiko & Koma extend and deepen their collaboration with young Cambodian performers who shared the stage with them in last year's Cambodian Stories (seen at Asia Society in New York). In the St. Mark's graveyard at dusk, they will present an outdoor version of the larger work, now a quartet with dancers Peace (Setheap Sorn, age 18) and Charian (Chakreya So, age 17), who played key roles in the stage version. In this new iteration, Eiko & Koma further explore themes of mentorship and the passage of generations that helped make the previous work so poignant. Paintings created by members of the Reyum Painting Collective will be suspended over the gravesites, revitalizing an ancient iconography in the heart of an urban metropolis.
Presented by Danspace Project in association with Asia Society

Cambodian Stories Revisited is made possible, in part, with funds from the Danspace Project 2006-2007 Commissioning Initiative with support from the Mid-Size Presenting Organizations Initiative, implemented by the Nonprofit Finance Fund and funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Additional funding was provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, Altria Group, Inc., the Japan Foundation, and Asian Cultural Council.
